Religious Education at Pacific Pines Primary School

Religious Education at this school is optional for students. A cooperative system operates for those students whose parents opt for them to participate in the RE program. This means that RE teachers are accredited through Education Queensland, to teach an accredited program which encompasses the different Christian religions.

Students whose parents opt for them not to undertake religion, are supervised during this time by their classroom teacher in an area near the classroom, enabling the teacher to view both the non-participating students and the participating ones. In the majority of cases, this will be the wet area in the buildings or the kitchen area in the modulars.

Non participating students should be given quiet work during this time and will not be introduced to any new curriculum. The work may involve any which the teacher may deem necessary and suitable for the students involved.

When parents complete the enrolment form, they will have indicated whether their child will or will not participate in RE lessons. This will remain operational unless parents change their minds one way or the other. They must then inform the school of the changed circumstances in writing.

Teachers may also ascertain whether parents wish their child to participate in special times of the year eg  Christmas, Easter throughout the year as Education Queensland advocates inclusive education. Students whose parents opt for them not to do activities associated with Christian festivals, will be offered an alternative program.
