Week 9 saw Pacific Pines students go mad for Math. The students from Prep to Year 6 got to choose from a range of activities that related to the three maths strands of the Australian Curriculum; Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics and Probability. The activities were also designed in response to our 2013 NAPLAN analysis.
The students participated in hands on activities, working in small groups. The activities allowed students to each work at their own level. This saw them motivated to complete the set tasks and experience challenges and lots of success. The school hall came alive each day as our mathematicians strengthened their love of learning.
It was wonderful to see the students applying the skills they have learnt in the classrooms to real life maths opportunities such as cooking, problem solving, sport, and construction.
We are hoping to organise another Mad Maths Week in 2014.
